Iowa WR Trey Stross jokes that DJK lobbied for SI cover

Iowa fans will cringe as they funnel through the magazine racks this week looking for a copy of Sports Illustrated.
Yes, the Hawkeyes are on the cover regionally, and the cover jinx gripped Iowa Coach Kirk Ferentz once he found out his squad would grace the national sports publication this week.
“You’ve got to be kidding me?” Ferentz said. “We’re on the cover? Isn’t the World Series going on right now?”
A World Series cover will hit most of the country while the Iowa cover runs in the Midwest. Iowa wide receiver Derrell Johnson-Koulianos leaps over fullback Wade Leppert in the cover photo.
“He probably called Sports Illustrated to get his picture on,” Iowa wide receiver Trey Stross said. “That guy’s got more connections to the media than anybody I know. Him and T.O.
“What is doing, dancing or something? It’s cool, though.”
The headline reads: “Still Perfect” with a subheadline reading “Iowa Stays in The Title Chase After Another Close Call.”
“It’s nice to have, maybe to keep something,” Stross said. “I’ll probably buy a magazine I guess.”

I figured there was a good chance a cover was coming, as it is a unique story and there hasn't been a Hawkeye on the cover in decades. Wish they would have waited until after the season, or at least the OSU game though….
