Three weeks to go

Posted on Nov 03, 2009 by Annette Busbee.

We’re in the final stretch of our 10-week program at Farrell’s. Only three weeks to go until our final evaluation. It was fun last night at the 6 p.m. class to hear fellow kickboxers tell how they need to go buy smaller belts, and how they’re fitting into pants that were in that part of the closet that you always hope you’ll be pulling clothes out of to wear again someday. If that’s not enough inspiration to keep on a regular ...

Half-Full or Half Empty?

Posted on Oct 20, 2009 by Dana Curtis.

Hello all, Dana here - to update on my progress with Farrell's xTreme Body Shaping.  You've heard the expression, and I can only wonder about myself, my levels of motivation, and how the final 5 weeks will look. I certainly have my days, like everybody else.  I didn't do as well as I could on nutrition, or the thought of pain and not going to class goes through my head, or I just feel like I am not seeing immediate results, ...

Shootin for the $1,000 prize!

Posted on Oct 20, 2009 by Mary Reeder.

As Annette said, we had our 5 week (half point) "testing" Saturday.  In some rspects the first 5 weeks went fast and I know we're heading into more intense work outs for the final five.  I have done ok, lost some weight and inches and improved on my push-ups and sit-ups but I didn't improve on mile run, ran it in almost exactly the same time as previously. It's interesting the different results everyone has.....some men seem to really be able to lose ...

Halfway through

Posted on Oct 19, 2009 by Annette Busbee.

Our five-week evaluations were done on Saturday at Farrell's eXtreme bodyshaping. It was a great opportunity to see the progress we had made and see where we are as far as achieving our personal goals. Some of my numbers didn’t go down as much as I would have liked. But I hadn’t been sticking to the nutrition plan like I should have been. As Business Manager Pam G. often reminds us, “You can’t out-exercise your nutrition.”  But my amount of body ...

21 days Makes a Habit

Posted on Oct 13, 2009 by Mattie Brawner.

A good friend once told me that 21 days makes a habit. We’ve been at this program for 24 days now. I am following the program down to the finest details. Although I’m eating my 16 grams of protein per meal, and the 80 oz of water (plus what we drink during our workouts) each day, I’m not sure that it’s become ‘habit’ yet. There are still afternoons when I’m driving home from work with the temptation to just skip class… ...

“Pain is Weakness Leaving the Body”

Posted on Oct 12, 2009 by Mary Reeder.

As Clint mentioned we have our 5 week (half way) testing coming up.  I'm not sure how I'll come out....I  know I've lost 9 pounds and I do feel stronger and that my endurance has increased.  I still however cannot do a perfect push up so I know I have a ways to go. I heard a saying once that comes from the Marines, an organization that knows a little something about getting in shape, the ultimate boot camp.  I think about it often when I'm grimancing, ...

4 Weeks And Still Kickin’

Posted on Oct 12, 2009 by Clint Baxter.

It sounds crazy to me that we are already 4 weeks down out of 10 in the program.  I keep thinking to myself  that there is no way we could be this far into it, yet here we are....still kickin'.  Next weekend will be our 5 week testing to see our improvements from the workout and I can't wait to see the results.  I know on the first testing I couldn't do very many push-ups or sit-ups and my mile run ...

4 weeks down… what’s to come?

Posted on Oct 09, 2009 by Dana Curtis.

Hello there!  Dana here to update on my Farrell's xTreme Body Shaping experience.  It's been over a week since I last dropped a note of what is going on.  Since then, this past Wednesday night Kickboxing & Cardio I have to say was the hardest workout since we've started, for me anyways.  This sweet, little, petite instructor - named Melissa, kicked my butt!  It was constant jumping jacks, up and down between punches and kicks for some pushups, and sit-ups, mountain ...

THE PIZZA CHALLENGE

Posted on Oct 07, 2009 by Melissa Kumle-Hammes.

Today presented a NEW challenge for me during this whole 10 Week Farrell’s eXtreme Program—THE PIZZA CHALLENGE.  Please let me explain!  Over the lunch hour today, I was required to be at a work meeting where the managers provided PIZZA for those who attended!  I knew about the pizza in advance, so I made sure to eat my lunch of Turkey, Sliced Pears, and Snap Peas beforehand in order to avoid all temptation.  Then, in case of an emergency craving, ...

A new week, a new motto

Posted on Oct 05, 2009 by Annette Busbee.

It’s Week 4 at Farrell’s. I was comparing notes with a couple female friends last week who are also on this 10-week journey. We agreed we had noticed some of our clothes are looser. Unfortunately the particular clothing items we were talking about are worn on the top half of the body. Dang! Hopefully in another week or two we’ll notice the jeans and pants are loosening their grip, as well.   While my nutrition and eating habits are improving, last Thursday night I had ...

Grateful

Posted on Oct 02, 2009 by Mary Reeder.

So it's Friday and we're wrapping up three weeks now.   I have to admit I'm turning a corner (slowly) and in a different place then I was a week ago. I don't dread going to class AS MUCH and I am starting to see some changes in both my body and my spirit.  I've lost 6 pounds (shhhh....not suppose to weigh ourselves until we hit 5 weeks) and I am feeling more calm, more in control and more confident that I might ...

Attitude IS everything…

Posted on Oct 01, 2009 by Dana Curtis.

It's me again... Dana here!  I am in the middle of week 3 of the xTreme classes.  I have to say, they were right when they said eventually the pains and soreness start to fade away.  That is not to say that the workouts get easier by any means, actually, they have indeed pushed me harder than ever!  But, the day after pains are subsiding, and that is making this a whole lot easier.  The workouts are something else, we ...

It gets harder... we get stronger

It gets harder… we get stronger

Posted on Sep 30, 2009 by Mattie Brawner.

We’re into week 3… one would think that class would be routine for us now. Go to class, work out, go home feeling satisfied with a workout, but not near as exhausted as the first two weeks… With this program, it’s not that way. You see, as we get stronger, the kickboxing instructors make it harder.  I think that’s one of the best and worst things about the program. We push ourselves in class, do what the instructors tell us to ...

Oh No!

Posted on Sep 29, 2009 by Melissa Kumle-Hammes.

When I decided to participate in the Farrell's program, you can bet that I had a lot of fears about what would be expected from me.  I expressed those fears to family, friends, and my beloved co-workers--sore muscles, not being able to stick to the diet, giving up Diet Mt. Dew.   However, I never anticipated in a million years that I would have a road block so big that I may not be able to finish the program.  Well, last Wednesday, ...

Fun Friday is not so much fun

Fun Friday is not so much fun

Posted on Sep 28, 2009 by Annette Busbee.

It’s now week 3 of our 10-week Farrell’s eXtreme Bodyshaping challenge. At the beginning of week 2, I got just a little cocky and thought, “Hey, I’m getting the hang of this. It’s not so bad.”  Well, this cowgirl got a little ahead of her horse. The ante is being raised all the time. The workouts on what is called “Fun Friday” are, in a word, not. On these kickboxing days, the intensity is racked up several notches—lunges, sit-ups, jumping jacks, ...

Ok, where do I start here?!  Umm, I tend to write exactly how I think and talk... so hopefully that will be enjoyable for you ;-).  First thing, I guess I could fill you in on some things about me and why I decided to try out Farrell's xtreme body classes.  Over the past ten years... since being pregnant with my oldest daughter, and two years after that with my youngest, my weight has done that yo-yo thing.  It was ...

It takes a village!

It takes a village!

Posted on Sep 24, 2009 by Mary Reeder.

At this point in the 10 week program, I have gone through a plethora of emotions, excitement, dread, determination,...waking up every morning with a faint feeling of  hope.   I ask myself these days if I would be at this point in the program without the support of co-workers, members and instructors.  No.  If  it wasn't for Kelly, (a lifer) who last night was my partner and continuously pushed me, high fived me, yelled out my name along with "Come on! You can do it" ...

The Hardest Part

Posted on Sep 22, 2009 by Melissa Kumle-Hammes.

Let me set the scene for you:  For the last four years prior to enrolling in Farrell’s, my idea of exercise was taking my dog out for a leisurely walk around the neighborhood and drinking beer while floating in Party Cove out on Coralville Lake(you need arm and stomach muscles to do that, right?).  Also, my idea of a diet was eating only one piece of cheesecake, instead of two.  Now, I have committed to a 10 week EXTREME fitness program, ...

Week 2…Ready or Not

Posted on Sep 21, 2009 by Annette Busbee.

After getting Sunday off, Week 2 begins at Farrell’s eXtreme Bodyshaping®. For better or worse, we pretty much know what the week ahead will bring.  As newbies to the program, we were asked to identify ourselves before almost every class last week.  Extra instructors walked the floor to help us with our technique. For kickboxing, we were also paired with veteran class members who could help show us the ropes, so to speak. Here’s a shout out to Kelly who stuck ...

The beauty of the free day!

Posted on Sep 21, 2009 by Mattie Brawner.

If you had to eat healthy every day of the week, except one, could you do it?? The first week was a great refresher course in nutrition. The equation for success in the program includes 6 days of working out each week (3 days of kickboxing and 3 days of resistance training) and a very specific meal program 6 days each week. We get one free day. In the first week, I've learned a few things: Adding broccoli, cucumbers and cauliflower to carrots and celery is ...

Farrell’s eXtreme

Posted on Sep 18, 2009 by Clint Baxter.

Welcome to the first blog about our experiences at Farrell's eXtreme Body Shaping.  We are now currently at the end of our first week. I amazed at how quickly a person can get out of shape when their live changes and  forget to focus on what they consume and, most often, cut out the exercise.  After college, I started to pack on the pounds, which I had worked so hard to shed while in school.  Then came the stresses of work ...
