Three weeks to go
Posted on Nov 03, 2009 by Annette Busbee.
We’re in the final stretch of our 10-week program at Farrell’s. Only three weeks to go until our final evaluation. It was fun last night at the 6 p.m. class to hear fellow kickboxers tell how they need to go buy smaller belts, and how they’re fitting into pants that were in that part of the closet that you always hope you’ll be pulling clothes out of to wear again someday.
If that’s not enough inspiration to keep on a regular exercise regime, here’s another. It could help you fight off the flu this season. A team of ISU researchers found that mice that regularly ran on a treadmill (no kickboxing mice, I guess) over a three-and-a-half-month period developed less severe flu symptoms than those that were not subjected to exercise — and they had less influenza in their lungs. According to lead researcher Marian Kohut, ISU associate professor of kinesiology, the moderate stress from repeated exposure to moderate exercise might improve your ability to respond to other stresses, such as influenza.
I know a big factor that keeps me going to Farrell’s regularly is all my fun, friendly, fellow exercisers. And even though the instructors will kick your butt during class, they’re really friendly and helpful, too.
How are you other 10-weekers doing with three weeks left to go? We’d love to hear from you.
