Fayette County woman charged with attempted murder

Samantha M. Petersen, 19, of Wadena, has been charged with attempted murder in the stabbing an 18-year-old girl during an argument.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office said Petersen stabbed Alyssa Ann Gill of Wadena with a butcher knife during an argument July 27 at 206 E. Water St. in Wadena.

Gill was treated for a stab wound to the chest. Petersen was taken to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City for a mental evaluation before being returned to West Union to face the felony charge.

Petersen is in the Fayette County Jail on a $100,000 bond.

Attempted murder is a class B felony, punishable by up to 25 years in prison.

    No argument is justification to stab anybody. Nobody is worth going to prison for.
