DELAWARE – Delaware Volunteer Fire Fighters received a call at approximately 8:15 p.m. for a structure fire in rural Delaware County. More than a dozen fire engines from Delaware, Greeley, Earlville and Delhi arrived to a farm house at 2442 217th street, just outside of Delaware.
The house was fully engulfed. Firefighters had to neutralize three outside LP gas tanks and disconnect the electricity before taking on the fire. The combined efforts of the firefighters had the blaze under control in less than 30 minutes.
Chief Duane Elgin of the Delaware Volunteer Fire Department said that no one had been in the home when the fire started and that there were no injuries. Elgin said that the cause of the fire could not be determined at the time.
The farm house resident, Janice Conrad, said that she was distraught to see the home she grew up in go up in flames. She had no other comment.
