UPDATE: No students were on board when a school bus crashed into a ditch along Highway 13 in Central City today.

The crash happened at 12:23 p.m.

The driver of the bus may have had a medical condition that led to the crash, according to Linn County sheriff’s deputies at the scene.

The bus hit the east guard rail of the Wapsipinicon River bridge in Central City before going into the east ditch and striking a tree.

The driver, Michael E. Wolfe, 57, of Lone Tree, suffered what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries and was taken by helicopter to St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids.

The bus was en route to pick up children at the YMCA’s Camp Wapsie northwest of Central City, deputies said.

Highway 13 was closed for a time but has now reopened.

Thank you for that. We have family who go to school in that area and were worried.

No one else on board bus, the bus was on the way to pick up kids from a camp."
