Power restored in NE Cedar Rapids, Marion

alliantPower has been restored after an hour long outage that affected around 5,600 customers in Northeast Cedar rapids and Marion shortly before 3 p.m.

According to Alliant Energy, a down power line caused the outage, likely due to the high winds this afternoon.

    Last year Alliant sent a letter to Marion customers apologizing for the number of power outages we experience — something about the grid being overextended and out of date. A little rain, wind, ice or snow often knocks us out. Frustrating.
