Linn County inmate fails to return after work-release

Posted on Nov 02, 2009 by Steve Gravelle.

Police are looking for Demik Whiteside, who failed to return to the Linn County Jail Monday after being released to look for a job.

Whiteside, 21, was released Monday morning to seek work under a court-ordered work-release provision, according to sheriff’s Lt. Pete Wilson. After Whiteside failed to return by his 3 p.m. deadline, the sheriff’s office issued a public notice of his failure to return.

Whiteside was serving a 238-day sentence for violating the conditions of his parole on a 2006 conviction for third-degree burglary.

Whiteside is black, about 5 feet 8 inches tall, and weighs 165 pounds.

Anyone with information on Whiteside’s whereabouts is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 892-6100 or Cedar Rapids police at 286-5491.
