Police have arrested a 17-year-old boy from Hiawatha for allegedly shooting a man in southeast Cedar Rapids late Sunday.

Timothy L. Reynolds, 17, of 55 Robins Rd., has been charged with attempted murder after witnesses identified him as the shooter in the incident in the 1400 block of Fourth Avenue SE, police said.

The victim, 38-year-old Christopher Pearson, is expected to survive, police said. Pearson was shot once in the abdomen around 8:30 p.m. Sunday, and was laying on the ground near his residence when officers arrived. Pearson, who lives at 1411 Fourth Ave. SE, was taken by ambulance to St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids.

Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said Pearson remained in the intensive care unit Monday morning.

Officers located Reynolds about an hour after the shooting at the Rose Apartments, 1407 Third Ave. SE, which is about a block from the crime scene. An investigation led officers to apartment No. 5, where they found a handgun.

Reynolds gave police a fake name and was arrested for interference with official acts. He taken to the Linn County Juvenile Detention Center.

Investigators worked through the night and spoke to Pearson at the hospital Monday morning. Witnesses told police Reynolds and Pearson exchanged words just before the shooting. The attempted murder charge was filed early Monday morning.

Police believe Reynolds acted alone and fired just one gunshot before running away, Hamblin said. They aren’t sure what led to the original dispute.

“After (Pearson) is better, we’ll get more statements from him,” Hamblin said.

Police say Reynolds will be charged as an adult because he is within six months of his 18th birthday.

    Dont worry Tim!

The liberals will give you a second chance, and a third chance, and a fourth chance, and a fifth chance, and a sixth chance…….

  3. Cue the apologists.
I can hear them typing on their keyboards now: " Ohhhhhhhh he's just a ba-bay!!"…"What a sweet child!!"…" He just got caught up in wrong crowd"….." He needs a hug and love!!"…( Insert typical bleeding heart mantra here_______)

The legal system is not liberal or conservative, it is the law of the land and its people period. If you don't like the laws that are on the books, most of them have been there longer than this current administration and reach back further to other administrations, both Republican and Democratic. All these laws won the approval of the majority of the representatives of the people. Stop shoveling this "liberal" crap about everything that comes up, it doesn't show you have a good understanding of the way the system works, which undoubtedly you don't.

no crap, when did this turn article turn political? its about the what the guy did and not politics, shows your level of comprehension and intelligence on politics as well as other issues. it also seems to me you and your party are whining about it more than the liberals. if you guys are going to turn every article into this, you have some major issues and need to have a reality check because the past administration wasn't any better.

  7. The most unfortunate part of this is ,(if convicted), he will go to prison just long enough to learn how to be a "better" criminal, become filled with hate and come out taking it out on the rest of the population. At least, that seems to be what usually happens.
Gonna learn the hard way about being "gangsta".
And WE are going to eventually pay.
    How to break THAT cycle?

You're very much 'on issue' Ann. Young lawbreaker, work up to prison time, spend a few years in the joint, come out with a graduate degree in criminal.
