Culver eases propane rule, looks to help farmers
Posted on Nov 07, 2009 by Admin.
DES MOINES (AP) — Gov. Chet Culver is easing road rules for truck drivers who are carrying propane into Iowa.
The proclamation issued Saturday is part of an effort to help the state’s corn and soybean harvest. The move suspends the hours of service requirement for truck drivers who are carrying propane.
Culver says that means fuel will get into the state quicker and into the hands of farmers who are drying their crops after this year’s harvest.
The proclamation takes effect immediately and runs through roughly the end of the month.
On Oct. 1, Culver issued a proclamation that lifted the weight restrictions on highways for corn and soybeans for 60 days.
The governor has issued the temporary exemptions for several years to help farmers.

The only group of people to receive more individual cash payments than wellfare recipients are farmers. I don't know why we are trying to help them more. I already help them by paying taxes that they receive as price supports.

Suspend the rules that require drivers hauling propane to get adequate rest?? Good luck with that.

They've got the story wrong here. It has to be on trucks only driving within the state because trucks driving interstate are under Federal regulations and a state Governor can't suspend those regulations. The regulations for intrastate drivers hauling ag products are suspended in one way or another every year
