Cresco man dies in Winneshiek County crash

A Cresco man was killed Tuesday afternoon after the sport-utility vehicle he was driving slammed into the back of a semi-trailer truck.

The accident occurred at 2:38 p.m. on Highway 9, just south of Ridgeway in Winneshiek County. According to the Iowa State Patrol, an SUV driven by Bill Sommerfelt, 44, of Cresco, struck the trailer of a semi driven by Brian Dinger, 42, of Decorah. Sommerfelt lost control of the SUV, which left the roadway.
