I’ve witnessed a few of these University of Iowa football seasons now, and this has easily been my favorite year. Big Ten title? Nope. Rose Bowl? Uh uh. The dog’s name is “Cash,” as in “Johnny Cash.” Cash is an English bulldog and he’s Pat Angerer’s best friend. We got to know Cash, owned by one of Angerer’s three brothers, after the Iowa linebacker tore ligaments in his right thumb earlier this season. Outside Ohio Stadium this morning I ran into fans with champagne and roses in case Iowa pulls off the upset and wins the Big Ten championship.
