Kalona water to flow to Amish bakery

KALONA — The rural Golden Delight Bakery will get its water from Kalona following City Council action.
The business, which is within Kalona’s two-mile jurisdiction and is owned by Nathan Miller, earlier asked to connect to city water to meet Iowa Department of Natural Resources regulations for a commercial business.
The bakery will be charged a flat $11.20 base fee plus $4.58 per 1,000 gallons of usage.
The bakery, which is on the Miller farm just north of Kalona, was served by the home’s regular well, which will continue to be used by the family.
