Man eludes police to avoid drunk driving charge

IOWA CITY — A Solon man who was legally sober was arrested eluding police in a car chase after he told police he fled to avoid an drunk driving charge.

Shortly before 11 p.m. Friday, Cameron T. Boyce, 23, was pulled over by a Johnson County Sheriff’s deputy for drag racing, but Boyce soon drove off in the opposite direction, and refused to stop when the deputy activated the lights and siren.

According to criminal complaints, the chase reached speeds of 100 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone along S. Riverside Dr. in Iowa City.

Boyce pulled over near the Iowa City Municipal Airport, where he told police he was trying to avoid an operating while intoxicated charge.

His blood alcohol content was .07, just below the .08 legal limit, according to the complaint.
