Iowa guard members returning from Iraq

Posted on Dec 23, 2009 by admin.

A group of Iowa Air National Guard members is coming home from Iraq this week.

The 250 airmen are members of the 132nd Fighter Wing in Des Moines. They arrived in Iraq in the fall for a 60-day tour of duty. The unit was involved in more than 1,000 hours of combat flying with F-16 aircraft.

Guard spokesman Maj. Michael Wunn says the airmen will return over the next few days. The largest group will be home for Christmas, with the final group returning on Saturday.

Wunn says family and friends will greet the returning airmen, but there will not be a public ceremony.
