Cardella will use tax dollars for necessities

Posted on Jan 17, 2010 by Jeff Tecklenburg.

Why should you vote for Lori Cardella on Tuesday? Since 2007, the Johnson County budget has increased 55 percent; per capita, Johnson County has the highest taxes in the state of Iowa (property, federal, state and sales tax) and is in the top

10 percent of highest-taxed counties in the United States (Public Interest Institute data).

You should vote for Cardella because Janelle Rettig is not a fiscal conservative. In December, Rettig set in motion a $750,000, 2.8-mile bike trail from North Liberty to Sugar Bottom Road — a nice project, but not a necessity for county taxpayers. She co-chaired the $20 million conservation bond that increases taxes on Johnson County property owners while taking hundreds of acres off our tax rolls, resulting in an infinitely high cost than the $20 million price tag given to the people.

Cardella is a true fiscal conservative. She will be a tireless advocate for the people of Johnson County and will work to see that our tax dollars go for county needs, not wants in these stressful economic times.

Cardella is a good candidate and an honest and hard-working person.

Ms. Hogendorn: You used a word, "infinitely". I do not think you know what that word means.

    • IowaIrish says:

I absolutely know what that word means. Those those tax dollars will "forever" be taken off the tax rolls–into infinitely–or at least as long as we are a county.

      • TwoCats says:

Well then you obviously can't spell. You apparently meant to use the word INFINITY, meaning an unlimited time, space, etc. INFINITELY is an adverb.

Why are you liberals so condescending and nasty? I looked at your other posts. They’re all condescending, but I’m sure you are a much superior person than rest of us lowly souls that you find irritating and beneath you.

          • TwoCats says:

Not being nasty or condescending. Just pointing out a fact that your spelling and word usage are wrong. Comes from experience cleaning up spelling errors others make on a daily basis. Speaking of condescending though, it's kind of presumptious of you to think everyone who posts here with a comment against something you write is a liberal. Careful what you say, you may be wrong.

Wow, I don't think I said one word about my political leanings. Honestly not living in Johnson county I could care less who wins this race but I do however have a problem with people presumptious enough to call others names when they don't have a clue about them. Condescending? No. Nasty? Not my style. Pointing out grammatical inaccuracies of you and others like you who can't spell is something that should have been done when you were in grammar school but since it obviously wasn't then someone has to do it now.

The $20M bond was approved by a super-majority of the electorate. When you tea b@g gers whine about it you are thumbing your noses at the vast number of people that voted for it.

  3. I heard shes one of those strange Teabaggers. If she is associated in any way with teabagging I hope someone else wins.

Since we are going the grammar nazi route I might as well point out one thing. I realize it has become common usage to say, "I could care less," but what does that really mean as stated? It means you do care at least somewhat since there is a lesser degree of caring that you could achieve. Please people, the phrase is, "I couldn't care less."

I hope my little rant did not come across as condescending or nasty.

    Thanks.

Actually what would be grammatically wrong is for one to use the word irregardless. The phrase "I could care less" is not grammatically wrong, just usually unnecessary, right up there with "it is what it is" except the latter phrase is completely pointless while the former tells how the writer feels about something, albeit with a usually unnecessary phrase. Rant away my friend because being the "grammar Nazi" is a necessary evil proofreaders face since far too many people either can't spell or read.
